Lucio looking for Brazilians

Although the player has a running contract until 2010, German tabloid Abendzeitung claims that Bayern Munich central defender Lúcio (29) could be on way his way to Barcelona. The player is quoted saying he would like to play in one of the three major leagues and sees another advantage about Barcelona: “I have never made a secret of the fact that it is important for me to have compatriots in my club. A team with more Brazilians makes everything easier, on the pitch and in private life.”

Barcelona would be offering the Brazilian international a four year contract, but will have to negotiate with Bayern, who doesn’t intend to let the player go. Lúcio sees no real problem: “Yes, the club has already told me that they would like to keep me. But I am convinced we can quickly find a good solution for all parties.” A transfer price of between 15 and 20 million euro (°) is been put forward.

I think that's a bit pricey for a centerback pushing 30 Barca should probably go for someone like Garay who although pricey is only 21

I agree with hamad (too pricey + too old).

Plus: he is quite slow and we really need a quick central defender.

Another crazy signing if it comes true. What's Txiki on these days? What happened to the Garay singning? The player has potential to be a really great CB and suddenly Txiki lost interest in the player.

Instead we're thinking of signing an old Brazilian who proabaly only is interested in to raise his salary and live in a beautiful city as Barcelona. I want younger and hungrier players.

I might think it's Lucio himself throwing this thing up, hoping that Barcelona will pick it up.

It's clear Barcelona will bring in a new central defender, with Thuram's contract expiring (and Marquez maybe leaving). But I really don't think that will be Lucio.

On Garay: the negotiations seems to be on a dead point (click the 'garay' label at the left if you want to know more about what and why), with reports from the british media last weekend that he would be close to signing for Manchester United.

Lucio slow? Are you kidding? He is farking quick! His pace and sense for attacking are his strong points. But still agree that Garay would be more promising option.

I hope this is just rumour because Lucio is past his prime jus like Henry and to pay between 15-20 mil for a 30yrold is a waste of money; they should go for Garay instead who looks more promising and has a bright future ahead of him and besides Barcelona need youngsters in their squad who would be hungry for trophies not players who are looking to end their career on a high note at a Mes un club.

I agree we should look for a younger player to replace Yhuram. We need more heart, more drive, more speed, more enthusiasm.

With Puyol and Milito (and/or Marquez) you have a solid first pair (well, in theory you have, latest games didn't really prove that). So, you have the perfect conditions for a young player to adapt and come gradually into the team. Don't know Garay enough to judge if he should be that guy.
