OFFICIAL: Giovani to Tottenham

Barcelona has announced the transfer of Barcelona right wing attacker and Mexican international Giovani dos Santos (19) to Tottenham.

The statement on the official website reads: "FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur FC have come to an agreement for the transfer of Giovani Dos Santos to the English club.

The Mexican will sign for the club managed by Juande Ramos until June 30, 2013 for a fee 6 million euros plus another 5 million depending on the player’s appearances for the London club during his five year’s of contract. FC Barcelona also maintain 20% of the financial rights to any possible transfer of the player during his first two years of contract and 10% on any transfer from his new club, Tottenham Hotspur FC."

Tottenham has confirmed the transfer: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Giovani dos Santos to the Club, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms."

Giovani dos Santos joined the Barcelona youth academy in 2002. He was promoted to the first team last summer.

pep's opinion:
the fee is low for a player of his talent, but if it's true that his contract was expiring next year and he was unwilling to sign a renewal (and that the variables only depend upon his appearances), then you should just take it.

i think his first season was very decent given the circumstances (team wasn't good, crowd didn't like him, he was injured the whole time), so i would have liked him to stay with us. he had the potential to add something to this team. he was treated badly by a part of the fans, something that could have made him decide to leave, but his entourage played a decisive role in that by sending out unclear signals about his future from the beginning.

just a sad story. nevertheless good luck to giovani. go and spread the fame of our youth academy...

Might return to Barca to play as the club has done a lot for Giovani..

Would definately like to watch Giovani grow and return to play...

With 20% financial rights and 10% after dont think Giovani would sign for Real...

Although if returns its gonna cost a whole lot more if meets the potential...

Well Giovani to Tottenham... show them what Barca youth products can do =)

I know that we are all "passionate" fans here but attempting to belittle someone with profanity and verbal abuse only serves to weaken your argument and underscores your level of immaturity! Let's be civil to one another and agree to disagree...Wow, what a novel concept!...If the fans were "critical" of Gio perhaps it had something to do with his "brash" and overconfident attitude that might have rubbed some fans the wrong way. Gio carried himself with a sense of entitlement. Truth is, even with the limited amount of time he was given to prove himself, he didn't show the consistency needed to play more minutes which he needed to EARN, and not assume that he was entitled to! In the end he demanded more from the team than what they were willing to give (or felt he deserved at the time). Pure and simple!

Tottenham is a such faggy team. They are the biggest wanna-bes in the EPL.One fan commented that spurs would be better than arsenal next season.LMAO.:D.Arsenal are a class apart from tottenham.

Getting back on topic,it will be interesting to see how a player like giovani, who likes to dwell on the ball and take his sweet time before making a decision, with the extremely quick tempo of the english game.I think he will play decent there but wont live up to all the hype that he has created around himself. In a way,i think its good we got rid of him because we already have too many inflated egos in the dressing roomand the new management does not look like it will take any bullshir from the players.Plus the future percentages might be worth much more in the future.
