Group D: Greece-Spain (group D)

1-2. Like expected, Spain played with almost an entire B team, who dominated the game. Xavi and Puyol stayed on the bench. Iniesta started the game and was replaced after one hour by Cazorla. Güiza played a bad game but did score the winner.

I watched the Russia versus Sweden game and the Russians are really growing in this tournament. Deserved 2-0 win with attractive "fast break" football. Two goals from the book: recovery, good passing, good running, good finishing. Arshavin is clearly their star player but Pavlyuchenko is really a key player in the system because he moves very smartly in the box, has an easy shot too. I don't think it's really the type Guardiola is looking for though.

Already being group winners and with the quarter final clash against Italy coming up, it is almost certain that Spain will play this match with their second team.

The other match in this group between Russia and Sweden will decide who will play against the Netherlands on Saturday. I think I'm gonna scout
Pavlyuchenko.

Xabi Alonso almost pulled off one of the greatest goals I've ever seen when he narrowly missed a goal from 70 yards away.

As far as the game in general I was expecting quite a bit more from Cesc. Granted he didn't have Torres or Villa at his disposal but I was dissapointed that he didn't take more command of the game. Xabi was probably the most impressive player out there, launching long balls and even if some of his long shots were off target you could see he was desperate to impress Aragones. I think Juventus fans must have been very pleased with what they saw from him. I was also impressed with Sergio Garcia. I didn't know he had such good footwork. He realy has good control of the ball even if he lacks that finishing touch on goal. Nobody else realy stood out for me as far as Spain was concerned. It was a deserved victory I thought since they showed the most chances and seemed to be pressing forward more than Greece. But it was nice to see Greece play a bit more open style for once. Maybe the score didn't go in their favor but it was much more entertaining to see from a fan's perspective.

I was very impressed by Arshavin in the Sweden-Russia game. Think he could do well on one of the wings in Barcelona and he wouldn't cost more then 25 million.
