Hleb meeting with Arsenal in London

Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio claims that Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla travelled to London yesterday to negotiate with Arsenal on the transfer of Arsenal midfielder and Belarussian international Alexander Hleb (27).

Despite the fact that Arsenal seems to firmly hold on to Hleb (read more here), whose contract expires next year, the meeting could mean that a final deal is near. Barcelona would be ready to pay maximum 15 million euro° for the player and is pressuring Arsenal with the wish of the player to join Barcelona (read more here).

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo confirms that Hleb still is the next main transfer objective of the Barcelona technical department. Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain would have been holding constant telephone talks with Arsenal officials over the last week trying to reach an agreement.

How could you know that a player who've NEVER played in Europe is better ?

The big question is why Barca isn't going after Van der Vaart instead of Hleb.

I fully agree with comment above. It's really good big fucking question why Barca isn't chasing V.d.Vaart instead Hleb. Until today I was hoping that he'll extend his contract at Arsenal or joining Bayern. I don't know whose idea is it to go after him? I'm Barca fan as long as I breathe. But honestly, I think Barca will have another trophyless season just because R.Madrid has much better players. Last season they signed Robben & Sneijder. Those two players are the best Holland players at EURO today. And Barca signed Henry, Toure and Milito. They are good players, but Barca need big names, not B-quality players.

My question is where would Guardiola play Hleb? as a left winger? I'd rather have Silva then. Upfront in midfield? I'd rather have Van de Vaart or Moutinho instead. Arsenal are holding out because they want Toure included in the deal. All I can say is that if Txivi or Laporta deal Toure away they should both be hung upside down in town square by their cojones!

The good thing about Hleb is that he's very versatile. He can play in the midfield, but he can play on the wings as all. It's always good to have versatile players in your team.

Yeah but its no good have a toothless versatile player.Just count the number of oppurtunities hes spurned last season and he makes gudjonsen look like a star.
