Barcelona interested in Arsenal captain Gallas

British tabloid The Sunday Mirror claims that Barcelona is interested in Arsenal central defender and French international William Gallas (30). Barcelona could make a bid of 6 million euro° for the player.

Gallas, who is a friend of Thierry Henry, has two years of his contract left and there have been no indications of an offer of an extension. This has alerted Barcelona where new manager Josep Guardiola wants to further strenghten the squad.

Arsenal captain Gallas might be given the permission to leave the English club. The Frenchman was given the armband by manager Arsene Wenger a year ago but there have been suggestions that Wenger is to make midfielder Cesc Fàbregas his new captain, which implies that Gallas will not be guaranteed first-team football.

this doesnt make sense at all??? why sign henrique then??? we dont need gallas maybe as cover for left back to compete with abidal or may be as a replacement for ogg? but to be honest caceres can play anywhere in defence so this is a silly purchase and pique is quite versatil at full back aswell?? mr.laporta we need attacking players no more defenders yes you've done the right thing in strengthening the defence but this is way ott we need a left winger and centre forward badly.

Who knows. Maybe Laporta and the Board knows something we dont about Militos injury. If it is "worser" (?) then the official statements he might be out all season or even longer.

The Club does not need players like this. Gallas is a child and arrogant. I hope tis rumour is off the mark.

I was going to say "how many central defenders could we possibly need?" but I guess IF Milito's injury is really bad we could use one more?

If Milito's injury is worse than expected and now that Oleguer could leave to Ajax, it would make more sense to keep Henrique or even Valiente.

how many central defenders do we need?...what's going on with barca?...can't understand them anymore...it only makes sense when we play 7-3-1...

this makes very little sense. Gallas isn't a bad central defender, but he's 30. if, as people have been saying, Gabi Milito's injury is worse than we know, then we need to look for a long-term solution. that's not a 30 year old veteran with a questionable attitude. we already have an old, commanding, slow, strong central defender who makes too many questionable challenges (Puyol). why do we need another?

I'm struggling to understand this rumor as well. The only way I can make sense of this is if Yaya Toure is going to be considered in a deal for Adebayor to help lessen the transfer cost. But then it wouldn't make sense for Barcelona to splurge another 6mil on Gallas either. Unless Arsenal are considering an Adebayor and Gallas for 25-30mil + Yaya Toure deal.

There is a tug of war going on at Barcelona with Laporta and Txivi standing firmly behind Yaya while Pep is less than enamored with him. I think it would be a huge misake for Barcelona to let him go and I don't see Pep winning this "war" but keep in mind how things could change if/when Laporta bows down come September.

Gallas can also play wing, and has a great head inside the box. Backup for Abidal or Alves, also backup in the middle which makes sense when you realize that Guardiola likes to build from the back line up. And he's cheap.

Makes perfect sense to me. More depth is never a bad thing.

People probably howled about the Thuram signing too, and he gave us two years of excellent, classy football. Sometimes you need a stable veteran in a club in which so many changes are going on.

No i don't agree this time around. Gallas should not be allowed to play in a club like barca because he will misuse the opportunity. IS this same a player that threatens that if he is not permitted to leave chelsea for arsenal that he will net in an own goal just because of his own selfish interest. NOOOOOOOOO he will bring nothing to barcelona than ill luck and bad spirit. hs lachs tha quality of a good player and leader
