Could Cruijff save Laporta?

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is thinking about appointing former Barcelona player and manager Johan Cruijff (61) as new Barcelona sports director.

After losing but narrowly surviving the vote of no confidence last Sunday and ahead of the general assembly that will decide on his future in a few months time, this would be one of the measures Laporta wants to take to regain the confidence of the socio's.

hasn't he only just taken the same role at ajax?

He already left after a few weeks. Scroll down and click the 'cruijff' label at the left for the story.

Only God could save Laporta at this point - literally and figuratively!

I'm curious do barca fans see Cruijff as more of a help or a hinderance to the club, because in the U.K. he is respected for the great player he was but look upon as a kind of footballing elitist who something seems to put his own ego and vanity ahead of your clubs interests.

Cruijff has an opinion and he's expressing that, that's why a lot of people in Barcelona don't really fancy him.

He's linked to Barcelona since the seventies, so in those thirty plus years he has made a lot of enemies. At this point he's seen by many as the strong man behind the scenes (in a rather negative way).

I don't think he has a big ego, by the way.

Call me crazy, but could Cruyff have something to do with departures of those big players Barca had in the past? Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, now Ronaldinho... Is it possible that the old man is kind of jealous of those players' achievement in the blaugrana jersey, and doesn't want to see them remain at the club for longer period because they would challenge his legacy (as a player at Barca, not as a coach). If that's true, could Messi be the next to leave? Bojan Krkic?

Barca must get rid of the negative influence of this man. Him being a huge legend of the club has nothing to do with present affairs. I still remember when Sandro Rosell said in 2005 that Laporta is Cruyff's man and he couldn't put up with that any more, so he left. Sure, things were fine next season, because no major changes were needed during that particular summer, but what happened in 2006? Henk Ten Cate left to Ajax (CLEARLY Cruyff's decision) and that hurt the team a lot. That's when the decline began...

I hope Rosell becomes our next president, so that Cruyff finally leaves this club alone, once and for all.
