Berbatov prefers Barcelona

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Tottenham forward and Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov (27) is a real option for Barcelona and that there has been made a new contact after it became clear that Adebayor and Drogba are most probably off the market.

Barcelona would have held last month the first talks with both Tottenham and the player. Because Barcelona didn't want to enter a bid race with Manchester United, Berbatov was asked about his position. The striker would have said that he prefers to leave for Barcelona rather than joining Manchester United.

The paper claims that Barcelona will make an offer of around 25 million euro°, that will in no case will be raised to more than 30 million euro°, while Tottenham has asked Manchester United a fee of 35 million euro°. After the deal on Giovani dos Santos (read more here), the relations between Tottenham and Barcelona are nevertheless excellent.

We should sign one player then the squad is ready to win the champions league, but not Berbatov because Eto'o is going to leave then Eto'o should stay, i would prefer to sign Palacio because you can use him as striker and winger

i say buy him, keep SAMMY, BOJAN & TITI as we have a few cups to figth for, liga, copa, ucl... so sell Henry to the US (MLS) nxt year. thats my honset view cos Berba wld bring somethin all our present strikers dont have, some mad skills. And i dont buy the idea "hes lazy" he bacame lazy cos he wanted to move on and totenham stood in his way. I wld rather say he sulks than say hes lazy.. check out his 1st season with spurs, when he was happy.. he fought for every ball. enuff said...

barca need to buy roman pavlychenko, because he is real good player and the most important is that, he is fighter and is not lazy.

kenweyne jones : PP

just buy a left wing. nothing more todo. we don't need a downgrade in attack.

Buy David Silva and the squad will be complete. Forget Sulkakov he is about 3 levels below Eto'o and has mastered the English art of sulking to try and get his way. Be done with him. Eto'o should be given the keys to the city. That's how important he is to the club.

Oh yeh!!! Kenweyne Jones will be a really good choice. Why don't Barca go for him instead? He plays similar to Adebayor. And also his price certainly won't be above 15 million euro.

Also Pavluchenko, as i mentioned him a lot in my previous comments. He's a really good choice as well, he didn't just proven his ability in euro 08. But also in Zenit.

I would prefer these two instead of Berbatov.

Spartak not Zenit!

David Silva wont come this year only if Valencia NEED to sell him so i still think Palacio is the best option because we can use him as right, left winger, 2nd striker, striker.

Poll in Mundo Deportivo: "who do you prefer, Berbatov or Eto'o?"

Berbatov: 11%
Eto'o: 89%

My opinion is Barcelona shouldn't go for this guy because we have 3 strikers already, although i understand he would bring the height, strength and skills with his back towards goal;Barcelona doesn't need him right now we should just sign David Silva and buy Karim Benzema next season instead of having four strikers this season and i would like Barcelona to bring in some competition for Valdes but i suppose that won't happen because we already renewed Jorquera and Pinto contracts but i would have like to see Ochoa from Club America in our squad to challenge Valdes but u never know he could come next season with the other stars.Que mes un club.

Why dont we try to sign Diego from Werder Bremen i think it would be a great transfer i dont know why its so quiet in Barcelona about him we should really get him before clubs like Chelsea, Inter, Juventus... get him and i think Ochoa or Diego Lopez would be great to challenge Valdes.

Sell Henry, and buy Berbatov. Or just sell Henry, he's terrible.

diego would be great but doesn't seem to be an option...

Guys, this isn't fantasy football. Stop with all the "how bout we get him or him". It's getting ridiculous. I thought Barca fans had more sense.

I'll say it one last time; the Berbatov move won't work unless Henry is sold (New York Red Bulls??)LMAO!!...But back to my point, Berba's game is more similar and mirrors Henry's game. So in essence partnering them together doesn't add another "dimension" to the club on the pitch.

Selling Henry and partnering Berbatov and Eto'o makes more sense. Eto'o's game is more about "cutting" and "slashing" and making free runs on goal.

Berbatov on the other hand doesn't like to roam, and has his preferred "spots" - near or just inside the box. He has excellent ball control and touch and his "flicks" seem at times effortless, which makes it look that he's not really exerting himself out there. The point is that he has ball control skills that Eto'o could only dream of. Vice versa, Eto'o has atheticism and power that Berbatov lacks. Put them together and I think you have a very nice, and deadly combination.

time out. think about what's being proposed here:

ditching Samuel Eto'o after he's clearly shown his ability and willingness to work for the club.

selling THIERRY HENRY TO BUY DIMITAR BERBATOV. what the hell? at least give Henry a chance to play in his best position before we sell a player with his obvious ability to buy a vastly inferior one who's wholly unproven in La Liga.

this is crazy talk. give Henry a chance to do what anyone who's watched football at any point in the past 10-odd years knows he's capable of doing. keep Eto'o as long as he keeps scoring goals and linking up well with our other attackers.

the idea that you would sell an all-time spectacular player like Henry after a single "bad" season where he was played in a totally foreign position, or that you would sell a top striker who's scoring and assisting goals at a phenomenal rate when you know his price has been artificially deflated is totally asinine.

keep them both, and find us a left winger: THE ONLY POSITION THAT IS CURRENTLY FILLED ONLY BY BARCA B PLAYERS OR CONVERTED MIDFIELDERS. i don't understand this focus on a central forward, beyond the "dazzle factor" of a big new signing, when our other needs are so clear.

Whether or not Berbatov is better than Eto'o is not all that import. Guardiola has been trusted to lead us for the next few seasons. On his judgement, Eto'o is not the type of player that Guardiola wants; Berbatov is. If we say that Eto'o shouldn't be sold it's like saying that we don't trust Guardiola's judgement and that is a different matter.
I, for one, would love to have Eto'o in our squad. He guarantees goals in La Liga. He has been a class player since he signed and one of the main reasons we won so much hardware.
Like him or not, Berbatov has different qualities to the others on our roster. There are some things that he is better at, some that he is worse at but there are some things that he can do that the others just can't. He can play with his back to goal. He can score headers and defend corners. And he can out muscle big defenders.

The team is fine as is, leave it alone. Henry, Bojan, Messi, Eto'o up front and u can bring one of them (bojan) off the bench, we dont need a #9 we have Eto'o.
