Barcelona following Stuttgart striker Gomez

German weekly sports paper Sport Bild claims that Barcelona is still interested in Stuttgart forward and German international Mario Gómez (23) (read more here).

Barcelona would be one of the European top clubs that have been scouting the striker during the season. Gómez could leave the German club this summer for a buyout fee of 35 million euro°.

Stuttgart has confirmed that Barcelona scouts have at least been watching two games of the club and the player's agent Uli Ferber has admited recent contacts with Barcelona, although it would only have been a first sounding out. Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Gómez, who has a contract with Stuttgart until 2012, could this summer be available for a transfer price around 23 million euro°.

there are so many variables when considering transfer targets and how players fit our scheme etc..everyone wants aguero or benzema if eto'o leaves, but this guy might be just as good for us considering how he would cost less than the others and so on. remember when we got r10? our first choice was beckham... sometimes the best thing that can happen to you is not getting what you want. with that said, i still prefer benzema:)

I looked at this video. 1st 40 secs was jubilation. The next 2mins was goals which weren't special but they were scored on the counter and from crosses into the box but we dont really practice these 2 styles; That's Henry has suffered (lack of counter/through ball).

Our midfielders love the ball so much cos thats our style. I am not sure he is what we need based on our style. who would give the deft crosses apart from D.Alves? And if you rely on just one of you full backs to provided you with all the crosses you need to score goals, then thats scary.

Iniesta would work the ball and spoon feed the striker to tap in.

I say Get Ribery, play him as LF, drop Henry to the bench role next year, dont forget to drop his salary too (am sure he is reasonable). So play Ribery, Eto, Messi. Iniesta can the become a utility player depending on opposition, he can play in the midfield at camp nou, and replace Ribery as LF in away/tough games.

i know him since years from the bundesliga. in germany his performances do fit the requirements. but barca is not just 1 level higher. he must improve by 300% to do the same as in stuttgart when wearing our jersey.

the skill aspect and the pass precision are far away from what we need.

aguero or benzema could reach the requirements but surely not gomez. he is good but that's not enough...

The problem with this is that gomez is not going to be the first striker here. He would be a backup striker to etoo which means he would impede bojan somewhat. Now i understand that pep wants a big tall arial target in the box but 23 million euro is way too much to pay for a backup player. I love gomez and i think he could do well if he came here, but i'd have to say in all honesty he probably wont be worth the money.

For me the scariest thing about this guy was his no show in the Euro. He missed goals from about 3 yards out.

If he freezes up on the big stage, he isn't the man for us. So for me he is still too unproven to be a worthwhile investment. I think Llorente would be less of a risk.

Even if Eto'o leaves we have Bojan and Henry to cover for the central striker position and with Llorente we will have 3 very different and yet potent options.

Why are people still saying "If Eto'o leaves..." He said he doesn't plan on leaving and Laporta said they will do anything to keep him. Next year, the strikers will probably Eto'o, Bojan, and hopefully Benzema. I wonder when Bojan will become a regular starter for Barcelona... Maybe we can loan him out to Lyon to make the Benzema deal a little cheaper or out to Arsenal so they can raise him like Cesc but we buy him back in a year.

What?
Buy back Bojan in a year?
We should never sell Bojan, worst case only loan him to get valuable experience and playing time so he can improve further.

if its bcos guadiola wants a tall and giant striker in the box,i think he is an option (good one)but that would be if eto'o stays,so that he would be the second choice and bojan the third of start playing from the wings.so if not for him being second choice i think benzema or aguero would be the best options if eto'o should leave.they both have skills pace and instinct in front of goals with either head or foot.(as requid by the style of barca).

Gomez is a good player in the bundesliga, but I think it would be a mistake for Barca to buy him. Go for Ribery or Benzema instead. Ribery could take Henry's position, and Henry could switch between beeing a winger and center forward. In that case Bojan would get more playing time.
