Cash plus Abidal bid for Benzema on the table

French sports paper L'Equipe claims that Barcelona is considering to make an offer for Olympique Lyon forward and French international Karim Benzema (21).

Barcelona would be studying a bid that could include at least 40 million euro° as well as Barcelona left back defender and French international Eric Abidal (29) .

While possible Real Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Pérez would like to use Zidane to convince Benzema and Ribéry to join Madrid, Benzema would
prefer moving to Barcelona.

I like benzema but i'm afraid he will prefer madrid! I like his shot a lot, he reminds me of Fernando Torres. I'm not sure about his mentality neither.
Aguero has more talent in my opinion!

Abidal is doing good this season so i don't see any reasons for getting rid of him. Maybe his salary is too high to what he delivers. He lacks some offensive qualities. but you cannot play with 2 offenesive back defenders like alves!one offensive and one defensive is the right balance I guess. surely when you have a defensive substitute on the right and an offensive on the left like for the moment sylvinho

hmm don't really prefer him,i think i love villa more but you may never know

He's not tall and strong wich pep prefers. That may be the problem for aguero to.

pep dont want a small striker..
thats the reason why he was chasing adebayor and berbatov last sommer..benzema is not that tall but very strong and fast..haven`t u guys notice that whenever aguero challange big and strong defenders he is always powerless. Must of u just watch agueros youtube highlights and think he must be the right guy.

i prefer benzema because he almost have all it takes (technik, speed, heading, shut with both legs and strong) to be a worldclass striker. he only lack mentality but that will not be a problem..playing with messi gives u strentgh;-)

I think only a left wing and left back we need. Ofc if Henry and Abidal leave us in the summer. I want to see Zhirkov and Ribery but next year we will be a month without Eto'o, Keita and Toure so we can buy some fringe players or promote stars from Barca B such as Gai, Thiago... visca el barca

Is he worth all that? 40 mill + Abidal who must be worth at least 20 mill though by the end of this season his value should be up above 25m.

Dude Abidal is not worth 20 million. We paid 15 million at the height of his value. We'd be lucky to get over 10 million for him. He's aged a bit and his reputation has taken a hit since moving to Barcelona, if he plays well for the rest of the year I can see us getting a 10+ million bid for him.

Since Im swedish, I'll say lets get Zlatan Ibrahimovic! :)
He's tall and strong

I started this rumor eight months ago-read comments section here:

http://fcbtransfers.blogspot.com/2008/06/brazilian-international-alex-silva-high.html

But I admit its very weak to be taken seriously mainly because Lyon are well covered in the back -specially on the left back- so they are not that dispirit to pay abidal high salary, and I don't think abidal will make a step backward in this stage of his career, too early. Regardless of the fact that Pep will unlikely give up on one of his good performers this season who is balancing the defense behind while Alves is going forward.

Fred_FCB I have my own "swedish" reasons to agree with you, but that dream is tooooo gooood to come true, too late, we missed the chance when he moved to Inter.

Not sure if another striker is necessary, but I think this has more to do with keeping Madrid from getting a player rather than getting one for ourselves.

Benzema is young enough that if Real get to him first, it could easily end up being a move that haunts us for many years to come.

Also, I think it's worth noting that he (as well as Ribery) are far more likely to end up at Madrid than any of our other targets. Being from Atletico, I don't think Kun would ever join Real. Villa, on the other hand, would've gone last summer if he really wanted to.

Either way, it would be nice to finally have a striker who is good with his head, plus it makes more sense to go for him over Villa (who is quite a bit older and not likely to improve a great deal) and Aguero (who is MUCH smaller/weaker).

I wouldn't do it. Abidal has been excellent, match in and match out this season, and his reputation has never been better. The question becomes who replaces Abidal? You'd have to find someone with his touch, pace and defending abilities. Lahm? No way.

The real question is what does Benzema answer. I could see selling Eto'o and creating a real bid for Benzema if we really want him, but the loss of Abidal would make the defense weaker.

As Alves roams and we play with a 3-man back line, Abidal's pace becomes even more of an asset.

...for me,benzema could be an add to our squad, but to pay so much for him is crazy...especially now when our team demonstrated us by results that we better with teamstars as stars in the team...also there still remains the fact that no frenchman ever got his feet 100% on barcas ground...benzema is good, but not worth that prize that others like batigol or ronaldo (the real one),etc. earned by international success in cl or wc...to put abidal too in the fee gives a much more worse taste to it,because for me,abidal gets more and more an add to the team, liked him from the start...there must be an other way to renew our strikers-front without following real's path...something that made us ever mes que en club...my opinion, benzema for 25-30mio. or leave him alone, until he proves his prize-tag...david silva on the left would be a better option as we saw him along xavi and iniesta proving his worth...ONE LOVE!!!!!

quite sick and tired of the 'if we don't get him now Real will and we will regret it' argument.

A ridiculous argument to use in a club supposedly proud of its unique philosophy and brand of football.

if barca keep the ball on the ground and keep the ball moving fast i would prefer aguero, and see him do what he did with argentina in beijing

I would prefer we re signed Eto'o and keep Henry for another season. Benzema or Kun can join us in 2 years time. Bojan should be given an opportunity and Gai should be given a chance as understudy for Messi. We should buy Ribery and Lahm and Asenjo. Nothing more.
