Ribery or Gourcuff to replace Henry next summer

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Barcelona is considering selling Barcelona forward and French international Thierry Henry (31) in the summer.

While Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola and his staff are more than satisfied with the performances of Henry this season, the board and some members of the football department would like to put Henry for sale at the end of the season. They think this is the last chance to get a decent transfer fee for the striker whose contract expires in 2011.

If Henry would leave, something that in the end will depend on Guardiola, the club has two players in mind to replace him: Bayern Munich wing attacker and French international Franck Ribéry (25) and Bordeaux attacker and AC Milan loan out Yoann Gourcuff (22) .

Italian sports site Sportmediaset meanwhile claims that Barcelona has already asked for Gourcuff. Milan would want to use the transfer fee of 15 million euro° to buy David Beckham from Los Angeles Galaxy.
Bordeaux has also an option to sign the French international permanently for the same amount before 1 July.

I heard ancelotti reportedly said gourcuff lacked pace. I think if we win everything this year or at least the champions league henry may decide to call it a day and head to the US.I think gourcuff may be an interesting option. Ribery will be much more difficult. This also appears to be an attempt to unsettle Henry by AS. Why would the board sell henry if guardiola still wants him?

I think Gourcuff is good player but on what position will he play?? He is AMC or he plays behind two strikers.. so I dont think he will fit into our system, also he dont prove himself in Milan so he can be flop again. I think bringing Ribery is a must! Thats like having two Messis lol
@pep can you make a pool who will be our left wing next season?? tnx

iniesta left wing and gourcuff next to xavi!
I'll take a look at him this weekend against marseille if he would be up for the job :)

It doesn't mean anything he flopped with milan! he was still young. on the few occasions i saw him play it looked like the style of laudrup a little bit. Laudrup also flopped in juve btw! great transfer it was!

Plus he will not cost very much

Maybe we'll have a poll later, boX. When it's more clear who could be the candidates.

I watched Gourcuff play a couple of times with Milan n couldn't understand why anyone would field a player like that at the top level. Maybe things are different now and he has found his feet but I dont think Milan will have the same faith in his ability and will be eager to get rid of him for as much as they can. The way they are headed i think Kaka next yr at RM is a very likely.

Why would be want to get rid of Henry anyway. His performances have been exceptional, he is the perfect cover for Eto'o next season n we can send him to the MLS after that. I hope Guardiola strikes idea down.

Thierry Henry to Miami 2010.

Ribery to the left and Leo to the right it sounds 2 good to be true..
Gourcuff's style is like Zidane's but he seems heavy and slow for Barca.

Agree with Anon. We shoud let him play till 2011 if possible and ship him off to Miami.

No way should we treat a legend by putting him up for a sale.

I would say bring Robinho he does want to leave Man city give them Henry plus some cash , He is good goal scorer he can play left wing or right plus he is better goal scorer then Ribery

there are choices out there for the left wing if we decide to sell henry,

the best choices are silva and ribery, since iniesta plays left wing now the player we should sign should play right wing too or midfield so these two players are the best for what they offer

now on talents there are great potential players out there that wouldnt mind the rotation, gourcouf is one of them,i love the guy he is the most talented french player (aside ribery,i rate this lad higher than benzema)and i wonder if we can sign him,it would be great.
the second is angel di maria and the 3rd pablo piatti, lets see ....

I completely agree with Abdikarim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robinho would be the perfect choice as left winger. If we had him, we would be simply unstoppable.

However, giving them Henry I don't think would work because of Arsenal. Instead, we should try to get Robinho in exchange for cash plus someone like Marquez or another player.

Robinho is better than Ribery, in my opinion. Plus, he's already played in the La Liga, so there would be no risk involved in paying for him.

The problem with this theory is that Bordeaux ultimately have the say in this matter as they have the buy option at 15 million for the player...And considering his value will be far more, it would be foolish from a business sense NOT to make the purchase (If you're Bordeaux) and then turn around and make a profit in a sale to Barca or anyone else.

AC Milan will have little to say in the matter

robinho is a headcase who likes to party too much. Not what barca need right now.

neither of them.sell henry and gudjohnsen.buy van persie and aguero.

not benzema gourcuff or ribery bullshite.

robinho is dinho's nightlife with only half the natural skill. no thanks

I prefer Van Persie or Benzema for the attack. Ribery or D.Silva for the left wing.

Gourcuff is an ordinary player and Aguero is too weak and he's not tall.

Silva would be a perfect fit. He's young, motivated and has heaps of potential. He already know la liga and the players that surround him from the national team.

Ribery is being worshipped in Germany and unless somebody cough up a lot of green (*cough* mancity *cough*) he really doesn't have a reason to go anywhere.

Hang on, everyone. This report is from AS, who also report that visiting the Camp Nou gives you crabs, and Messi has cooties.

I'll believe it when I see it happen, and when it happens, it will be a mistake. What if Eto'o leaves?

Without question, there's value in a true left winger. Henry definitely isn't a true lefty. But I do think that he's a true "9." Darn shame he isn't often used there.

Henry for Gourcuff? Not likely. As Mark said, he's ordinary. He hasn't impressed when I've watched matches on TV5, for his home side or Les Bleus.

Ribery is more of that Deco type that we do miss, but not a direct Henry replacement.

The real question is Eto'o and what his plans are, and what the Benzema business is all about. Last anyone checked, he was planning to stay in Lyon another season, to get ready for World Cup.

Neither, first Bordeaux has the first say in the Gourcuff transfer, and Ribery is too expensive Bayern Munich would never let him go, and he sort of has an off the field attitude (Balland'or).
I would wait for our youth products (Gai, Jeffren, Thiago, Icardi) and the end of the season before we discuss incoming transfers.

i agree w/kxevin...why is eto'o so hesitant to sign a renewal? i think he's still pissed @ being publicly dicarded from the team by guardiola only to stay on as pep couldn't get his ideal striker[adebayor(who sucks)] for his system. i love the guy but maybe it is a good time to cash in.

not a big benzema fan. he seems like a dick. gomez from stuttgart i think is a less polished, maybe a little slower yet stronger, & taller eto'o. he had a bad euro, this is true, but that means we'd get him on the cheap. his moms is spanish and i think pep was looking @ him as an option after bids for adebayor & berbatov failed to materialize. he's not a "big game flop" contrary to popular belief if you've actually seen him play.

i'm all for ribery but fabregas is still my # 1 draft pick.

I don't know? We have been trying to get Henry for 5 years and then we let him go after 2 seasons? I'm confussed? Anyway, I don't know how Gourcuff could be an option for LWF? Ribery, Silva or maybe even Pato ,Ibra or Tevez yes - but Gourcuff should play CM/AM. He is more of a playmaker and doesn't have the speed and dribbling that a winger should have. Don't get me wrong though, I would love for Gourcuff, Cesc or any other talented CM player to join us as backup/rotation for Xavi and Iniesta. Sell Hleb, Guddy, Eto'o, Bojan, Caceres - get Ribery, Tevez, Cesc/Gourcuff, backup for RB or LB (Puyol can be backup for the other side) and a new CB.
