Guardiola wants goalkeeper, left winger and striker

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Barcelona officials have been holding meeting to discuss how to strenghten the squad in the summer.

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would want to bring in a goalkeeper, a left winger and a striker, although it's uncertain the club will be able to sign players for these three positions.

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain is currently working with an extensive target list that mainly includes settled players like Chelsea goalkeeper and Czech international Petr Cech (25) and Bayern Munich wing attacker and French international Franck Ribéry (25).

If Barcelona will be able to sign three players, at least two players of the current squad will leave in the summer. Barcelona attacker and Belarus international Alexander Hleb (27) would be on top of the exit list after having disappointed both on and off the pitch this season. Bayern Munich and some English Premier League clubs could be interested to sign him.

If the club signs a new goalkeeper, Barcelona goalkeeper Albert Jorquera (30) will again consider an exit, like he already did in January. And the arrival of another striker, could make Barcelona forward and Spanish youth international Bojan Krkic (18) ask to join another club on loan, something that some people from his entourage would already have advised him months ago.

Not a word about the position I believe we need the most -- left back.

So who is the striker? They didnt mention anybody. We need a backup left back, another gk and a left wing. Although i'm still a big fan of giving jeffren, pedro or gai a chance on the left wing.

Ribery, Asenjo and Mario Gomez for those 3 listed positions. but i also agree that we need another left back

ribery asenjo and dembele!
A young promosing left back would do for me like united did with the twin brazilians.

I don't think we need a new left wing Henry is doing brilliant and theres no good reason to take him off if he dosent want to leave

For the striker and left wing positions I personally would like to 'rescue' Silva and Villa from Valencia, some sort of package deal would be insanely awesome, and I believe they have both expressed their desire to continue playing in Spain, atleast I know Villa has.

And as we've already seen, they're trying to offload David Villa without neither his knowledge, or blessing to Manchester City just because they're so wealthy and willing to overspend which I find very ungrateful after all that he has done for them.

There was a story a few days ago that Barca is ready to pay for Cech 50M Euro. Buying Cech would be very complicated and I think there's no chance that he'd be eager to move from London. According to some recent rumours lately, Valencia CEO is ready to cash in on Silva and Villa, so I presume that 2 out of 3 positions Guardiola prefers are filled. Valencia might be flexible about selling those 2 players to Barca, so 50M (for Cech!) would be nice price tag to start negotiations. Asenjo has low buyout clause and he could be good buying. Abidal is doing great this season and there's no need for left full back yet. Zhirkov from CSKA could be great because he could play both, left back and wing and he's cheaper option than Silva. Regarding Henry, he can play bench role next season (like Larsson) if he stays.
It's still early to talk about new signings.

1) We need world class gk (or Neuer, Asenjo as sub for VV)

2) We need LB thats obvious- (maybe the perfect solution is Evra, but to be realistic its impossible to sign him) so I prefer Zhirkov or someone who can accept the bench role)Abidal is not that bad

3) We also need back up for Alves( he is human and he cant play 40 games in one season with the same level) I prefer someone from cantera

4) Honestly I dont like Guddy(altough he is in very good form but we need one MC player, we dont have the best 3th MF so to promote Thiago isnt enuff. Option Cesc, Diego still on. Keita and Hleb are not good enuff.

5) For LM I think we can buy Ribery and use Henry as a ST, back up for Eto'o. And for God sake we must give a chance on Bojan. Also there are other posibilites Pedro, Gai!

6) Next year Eto'o, Keita and Toure will going in AFC so we realy need good backups!!

visca el barca!!

AS is again on a mission to unsettle the Barca players, this time they're after Hleb, Bojan and Valdes. It doesn't seem like they have any root in reality with their rumours.

At least right now we have players who can cover for the striker, goalie (Pinto is not that bad!), and winger. We don't have anyone to be our creative midfielder if Xavi gets injured. We also don't have anyone to cover for Daniel Alves. It isn't really reasonable to keep using Puyol there because it isn't good to take him out of the centre of defense. Maybe some youth players? Can someone please send me the link of some video's of Thiago and Gai?

Cech would be like.. a dream.. alas it might remain as one.

Realistically, we might have a better shot at getting Buffon. Perhaps while we are at it we can also purchase Asenjo, assuming that we get rid of Jorquera, and negotiations with VV don't work out too well.

For LB, Zhirkov seems to be a popular choice, and I too would go with him.

For LW, Ribéry would be awesome but after reading all the news I really doubt if we will be able to get him. Silva + Villa deal sounds pretty fantastic. We can most definitely use Henry as a CF, the position that he deserves.

And yes, as my fellow commenters have mentioned, we really do need a good solid backup for Alves! Poor guy is already getting tired in my opinion. Marquez/Puyol can cover, true.. but we need some fresh legs in there as well!

This is the first time I have heard someone say that he has disappointed OFF the pitch. I generally have felt this to be the case though I have nothing to back it up. Any inside dough to back this up, Pep or is it just a general feeling that you have too?

Just thought I'd put this out there...did anyone see Arshavin yesterday? wow. Barca, please don't cut and run if we don't get the deal we want first time around.

Look arshavin's team told us they wanted messi and cash for arshavin. Anybody that starts negotiations that way is not serious about selling. So we found somebody else. Added to which arshavin started to talk about he didnt want to work under guardiola and how he wanted a stable club and all sorts of dotishness
