Zhirkov and Lahm on top of left back list

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Bayern Munich full back defender and German international Philipp Lahm (25) and CSKA Moscow left winger and Russian international Yuri Zhirkov (25) are on top of Barcelona's left back transfer targets list.

The club thinks the left wing offers too little this season and therefore wants to sign a left back and a left winger in the summer. With a transfer of Lahm considered to be very complicated, Zhirkov would be the main candidate at this stage, also because Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola prefers the Russian for the left-back position.

CSKA Moscow nevertheless doesn't seem willing to let a key player like Zhirkov leave (read more here) and the left winger is also followed by several other European top clubs, which makes that a transfer seems to be still a long way off at this point. Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid would also be interested in the Russian player.

As a replacement for Sylvinho, we should look at cheaper options. Belhadj looks like a more feasable replacement. Whatever we do, we should keep Abidal. Even though he's not very popular among the Barca fans, he's been very solid defensively this season.

Audi fan---who said that Abidal isn't very popular?

well his popularity might have jst increased. A lot of fans slated him here on this forum. I have always been a fan and knew he was taking his time to settle.. and fans wanted an "alves" as a LB, that would leave us open. with RB attacking and LB attacking, we woul have just 2 people defending, 3 if Yaya doesnt attack too.

yeah noubarca-- we played with sylvinho and alves against Atletico and that didn't work, bacause they're attacking defenders. Abidal is the man who covers our defence, and thats why I think we should keep him. I repect that guy.

I see it difficultly happen. Both wouldn't come for less than 15-20-maybe even more million and Abidal won't leave so then you have two well-paid guys. Financially (both transfer fee and salary) it doesn't seem likely to me.

getting Zhirkov would be a gud one as he would be able to fill in as a left winger n also as a LB... why Lahm??? i don say tat he is a bad player... he is infact very gud... but why are we becoming the team with midgets??? already, Messi,Bojan,Xavi,Iniesta,Guddy are on the team... n the summer targets are like Aguero,Silva,Ribery... dono why ppl dont notice this... although u can argue tat the team dont play a game with players as a target man in the box, this is a big reason why we are not able to score much from set pieces and defend properly from set pieces...

i agree with u sashi....

I disagree with us being a midget team. A team with Yaya, Pique, Busqui, Henry, etc is not a midget team. The only reason why we suck at set pieces is because we have neglected that department for so long we've grown retarded with it. Only this season have we focused on our set pieces, hence the goals per set piece ratio has gone up.

And I honestly think its wrong to consider Iniesta, Guddy and Ribery midgets.. Dude, you might want to think of watching Lithuanian league or something.
