Ribery wants to join Barcelona

Asked about the rumours linking Bayern Munich attacker and French international Franck Ribéry with a move to Barcelona (read more here), Bayern Munich player mark van Bommel has said in an interview with Catalan radio station RAC 1 that the Frenchman wants to join Barcelona:

"Franck wants to play at Barcelona. Besides, I think it would be a good thing for Barça to buy him, he would surely adapt well to the club. He's the best player in Germany and his way of playing would fit very well at Barcelona since he's very strong and very technical."

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Ribéry is one of the main transfer targets of Barcelona for the summer, also because the club wants to bring in new and motivated players. Although the player would prefer to join Barcelona, Real Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Pérez would also want to sign Ribéry and has asked Zinédine Zidane to contact the player and his agent.

Asked about a possible transfer of Ribéry, Barcelona president stressed last week to journalists te good relation between the two clubs: "It's a very fast player who can decide games but he's a key player for Bayern. Our big advantage is the relationship we have with Bayern. They know what we're interested in and we know what they're interested in and we want things to stay like that. It's an issue that has to be taken care of by our sports department and if we consider something, we'll communicate directly and openly about it."

At least there is mutual respect and good relations between the two clubs. Having said that Bayern will be under no obligation to sell until Ribery says he wants to leave. I think he will go particularly if Bayern lose (which is likely). The big question is how much?? I think Barca will push for an exchange of players i.e. Hleb, Guddy and money. This will be one of the main transfer sagas of the summer for sure. I hope we get him.

If Ribery comes to Barca, that will be the best transfer of transfer Market. But the important thing is can he fit into the Barca's attacking style? Those doubts apart, ribery is one of the great players at the moment and is certainly a match winner. This transfer market is going to very interesting and I hope Barca makes a lot out of it.

After all the quotes and interviews with Mark Van Bommel, I don't think that he is worth to be captain for Bayern Munchen. If I was their captain, I would never talk to the press like he have been doing.

Admiration for Barca is one thing, but being captain for a team is another thing. If all published things were true, I'd have no respect left for the man.

Goal . com jus released a new article

Mark van Bommel was misquoted when reports suggested that Franck Ribery had told him that he wanted to play for Barcelona, according to a Bayern Munich spokesman.

The Dutch midfielder has demanded that several Spanish media outlets issue an apology for claiming that he said his team-mate would suit the Blaugrana.

In the build-up to the second leg of their Champions League tie, Bayern were stunned to read that their captain had promoted the idea of one of the club's best players leaving in the summer.

But Van Bommel has now moved to deny that he ever said that Ribery should go, wanted to go or would be good for Barcelona, as the Bundesliga giants' press officer, Markus Horwick, explained.

“Van Bommel tried to give an interview in Spanish, but what he meant to say is not what was interpreted,” he told reporters ahead of the Champions League match on Tuesday.

“He was asked if he thought Ribery was good enough to play for Barcelona and he said that he felt he was.

“I would ask that all the online reports in the Spanish media claiming the contrary be removed.”
