[2008] Looking for a centre forward

this post was published exactly one year ago:

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo gives today a general update on the transfer activity surrounding the centre forward position.

With Olympique Lyon forward Karim Benzema (20) not going to leave his club this summer (read more here), Barcelona's top target is at this moment Arsenal forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor (24). He's the favourite choice of future Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola. Arsenal would be willing to let the player go for 30 million euro°.

The number two on the list would be Tottenham forward and Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov (27). The player wants to leave his club and Tottenham seems to have accepted that and is ready to cooperate. The transfer fee would be around 25 million euro°.

Chelsea forward and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba (30) would not be seen anymore as a real option cause of his age and some reports about his physical condition. Barcelona does not want to repeat the Henry case.

Besides one of the above mentioned first class strikers, Mallorca forward and Spanish international Dani Güiza (27) could be transferred to bring more competition up front and to act as a kind of super-sub in substitution of Henrik Larsson.

Adebayor?

Oh my good, I can't believe this. He's an one season wonder and nothing more. Don't buy this player for god sake.

Either keep Eto'o or get Ibrahimovic. With no Benzema, you cannot take a chance with someone like Adebayor who, in my opinion, isn't the best choice to begin with.

If benzema or aguero doesn't come I don't want eto'o to leave.

Zlatan I would consider too. berbatow and adebayor are worse than samuel.

I'm realy starting to wonder who's pulling the strings at Barcelona these days because some of their most recent decisions or "claims" seem totally preposterous!

A.) They sign a player,(Keita) who they realy didn't need.

B.) They potentialy sell one of their most promising players of the future (Dos Santos) and possibly replace him with Hleb??

C.) They're could replace Eto'o with a player(s) (Adebayor, Berbatov, Guiza) who are nowhere near as good as him.

D.) By missing out on Garay they potentialy will have to spend TWICE as much on Caceres!

E.) They are trying to fill "secondary" (backup)?positions in the line up without first shoring up the right back, left wing and goalkeeper positions which are their most pressin needs.

All of this leads me to believe that someone should check the water in Barcelona because something fishy is going on!

IMO Eto'o and Henry should stay with Güiza as a competent backup. With a forward line consisting of Eto'o, Henry, Bojan, Giovani, Güiza, Messi and Silva Barca will win titles next season.

signing strkier a right now should be the last thing on their mind.eto'o should really not be chuckeed out because a)he was not avialable for more than half of last season's games and b) because he was our most consistent scorer.as well, the service from the midfield can also be blamed to a degree fro our poor scoring run.you can't expect him to be the pichichi again without ronaldinho proviiding those magical passes of his like he did back in 2005/2006. right now we have 3 top class strikers and reinforcing other positions like left wing, central playmaker and right back.

honestly I don't see the problem with Eto' I think the fact that teams are all tripping over themselves to seek and buy him is a clear indicator that he's a dangerous sharp shooter he's one of my favorites on the team and if he is bought i will be extremly sad to see him go i think he's quick, ambitious and has patience. All good qualities of a striker..the man's gold and Barca (we)..should keep him.

There is absolutely no 9 that can replace Samuel Eto in Barcelone presently. The problem of Brca is not the forward line. We need to replace the defense lines, goalkeeper, wingers and a solid midfielder like Rhoni that is capable of making the difference. Barsa will regret in the long run for letting Eto to go.

Why does everyone like Eto'o so much? He used to be good, but this season, he sucked! Anyone who has actually watched his games should think the same!

Eto'o is not the striker we need to be rid of...Thierry Henry has well earned that tag. He was terrible for the greater part of last year and proved this Euro Cup that hes a has-been. I dont understand Guardiolas decisionmaking in this case...a front line of Ronaldinho, Adebayor and Messi would still be terrific, albeit well have to hope noone can take Ronny from us either. Thats what I have my fingers crossed for as the Barca front line anyway.
