Messi rejects record offer by Manchester City

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Barcelona attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (21) has rejected an offer by Manchester City.

Manchester City owner Mansour bin Zayed would have contacted the entourage of Messi to offer the player a five-year deal worth 10 million euro net a year, while he would now earn 8 million euro plus 4 million euro incentives. Messi's family would also receive 10 million euro for the transfer.

If Barcelona would oppose the move, the English Premier League club would have assured the player that they were ready to pay the 150 million euro buyout clause and the 50 million euro taxes that would go with the transfer. The total investment Manchester City was ready to make would have been 285 million euro. Messi nevertheless rejected every offer.

Manchester City has meanwhile already denied the rumours in a
statement on the club's official website: "Manchester City Football Club note with interest the reports circulating in the Spanish media that the club has made an offer to the Barcelona player Lionel Messi and that he has turned down the chance to join the club. While acknowledging that Lionel Messi is a world-class player of the highest calibre, Manchester City would like to make it clear that the club has at no time made an approach to Mr Messi or his representatives."

Now here's a player with true integrity. Let's hope Barca makes an exception and doesn't treat this gem badly (FYI it has treated many many many of its stars rather badly).

God bless Messi, and hope Barca treat this boy really well and make him happy!

im kinda confused about this whole buy out clause, does this mean that if barcelan refuses an offer, man city can still get messi if they pay the 150mil plus taxes?
